§ 35. Police department; chief of police.
(1)
There is hereby created in the city a police department for the preservation and enforcement of law and order within the city. Such police department shall be composed of a chief of police and as many subordinate officers and employees as the city manager may direct.
(2)
The chief of police will be hired and removed by the city manager with confirmation by a majority vote of the total city commission. The chief of police shall have exclusive control of the stationing and transfer of all officers and employees constituting the police force, subject to the approval of the city manager, or under such rules and regulations as may be prescribed by the ordinances of the city.
(3)
The chief of police shall perform such other duties appropriate to the office as may be imposed upon the chief by law, the ordinances of the city, and by direction of the city manager, consistent with this charter.
