§ 71-106. Undergrounding.

  • (a)

    Except as provided in this article, in all areas of the city where all cables, wires and other like facilities of public utilities are placed underground, each cable communications franchise grantee shall construct and install the grantee's cables, wires and other facilities underground. Amplifier boxes and pedestal-mounted terminal boxes may be placed aboveground, if technology reasonably requires, but shall be of such size and design and shall be so located to provide an installation as aesthetically acceptable and as safe as possible under such technology.

    (b)

    With respect to any cables, wires and other like facilities constructed and installed by a grantee aboveground, the grantee shall reconstruct and reinstall such cables, wires or other facilities underground pursuant to any project under which the cables, wires or other like facilities of such utilities are placed underground within an area.

    (c)

    Cable shall be a minimum of 36 inches deep in rights-of-way.
